Something attacked my girls

Lasy night I found two of my girls had been attacked. Not sure by what, maybe a cat? I cleaned with peroxide and coated the wounds with neosporin. I separated the 2 injured chickens and they are both eating, drinking and walking around. I have them in a huge dog crate together, is that ok? They don't seem to be pecking at each other. Any suggesstions to help me get them back in their coop sooner? How long will it taje fir the feathers to grow back? We live in MN and winter will be here before we know it.

Sorry to hear that!

You could put "Blue Coat" wound treatment on the wounds and were feathers are missing and that will help keep them from pecking at them. If the wounds are deep etc I would wait till they heal for the most part. I have found it takes a bit of time to grow feathers back. If you are worried about them being excepted back into the group just keep them in the dog crate where they can be seen by the others and still be around them, except they are protected by the crate.

I had one get attacted by a dog... Had punctures and injured leg. He healed, got back on his feet after a couple weeks, seemed to be doing well but then suddenly died.. Im assuming infection on the inside, or blood stream. So it may be a good idea to treat yours with an antibiotic as well if the wounds seem more than a scratch.

I've got an antibiotic to put in the water and bluecoat. Do I put the antibiotic ointment under the bluecoat or on top?

If they continue to lay eggs, can they be eaten? Will th antibiotics transfer to the egg?

Another dumb question... Duramycin-10, how much per gallon. You would have to be a scientist to understand the directions!

Being on the antibiotic i would probably discard the eggs even for a bit after stopping the antibiotic... The Duramycin 10 is gonna be 1 tablespoon per gallon of water... I had to do a ton of research on that to find it lol. It probably doesnt matter what order for the ointment n blue coat... Im havin an aweful time w my chickens right now.... I think ive got Mareks??? Ive been on this site ALL day reading. Lol

Thank you, I just put the blue coat on and checked out the chicken really well. One looks really bad but she feisty again. The other is looking better. I think it may have been a hawk that attacked them. After talking to the local feed store, the expert said they have been very active lately.

Cat food helps grow feathers back faster. When my one girl molted, I mixed in some normal dry cat food, and her tail feathers were growing really fast!! I dunno if that would effect them if they're taking another antibiotic, but if they're not the cat food won't make them sick. Hope that helps!!!

Mareks is a bad chicken disease... But now that ive done all my reading I dont think thats what my birds have... Thank god

Ive heard the cat food is good... There is something in it that they cant handle a lot of, forget what it is, maybe the salt.... So use it on a temperary basis.

My ladies seem to be doing well after sone intensive care. It appears that some feathers are coming back. Neither chicken is laying eggs...should I worry?

I am thinking of letting the chickens out to play with their friends....I hope things go well. Should I wait until they are completely healed before putting them back in the coup. I think they will be much happier.

I think you should wait. It might be better for them.
