This sounds as if it is suffering already, so I would not put it back but end it immediately.

There are several ways to do it quick.

Yes I’m looking at that now. My husband has done it to older birds and he’s ok with that. He did it as a child lol. Not me. I hate this but yes going to get him to put the poor thing out of its suffering immediately.

Well done! Sadly, this is part of proper husbandry as well and there is no way to avoid it.

Hopefully, this case of bad luck will never be repeated.
