There is an ad on my local classifieds right now of someone with one hen about the same age looking for a new home. All of their others got killed by a bear. I've sent an email and left a phone message, so I'm hoping our two lonely hens can become roommates.

I put a critter cam out, actually I put 4 cameras out in various locations and connected them to a DVR to record. Saw a Cayote, Racoon, Possum, Rabbit, and Fox. I have the cameras that will record in total darkness, but I have a yard light and that brightens up the pictures quite a bit. I put them out originally to see what was getting in my garden and eating some of my plants. It was the Rabbit.

Lori, that is good to hear

I can picture her chatting with the chicklets - gives her a much needed distraction. If your hen witnessed what happened to her roo and hen friend - and she probably did - she is likely traumatized. A little Rescue Remedy may be in order (drop or two in her water...).
That poor other hen, with her buddies being killed bya bear - so sad. I hope it works out with the two becoming fast friends. There are the possible disease transfer issues and warnings about quarantine to weigh....I know how hard at times like this when they are so sad and lonely.

Hubby just came home with some plywood and two by fours and he's going to build me a coop to go in the shelter.
Four feet high, four feet deep and eight feet wide...With six boxes and a operable top.
A new fort knox for the peeps...and our lil vanilla.

No word on the potential roommate yet...

What a nice husband! That sounds like a very good idea and a good solution to your problem. Make sure you use 1/2" hardware cloth on any coop openings, too. Like the windows and vents.

I hope you don't have any more problems.
