Something got my buff banty

Went to feed this morning and found my buff cochin banty missing its head. Figure raccoon. Have the roosters in a separate pen with the ducks. No one will go in the coop so it was just a matter of time before someone got killed. Im going to have to trap it I guess. Roos are leaving Sat so that wont be an issue anymore but the ducks wont go into thier pen at night so I dont know what to do.
Im so mad at myself.

Keep in mind the laws and ordinances in your area about trapping animals. Some types of traps, relocating, and other things can be illegal. For instance, you can’t do much to most hawks because their protected.

As for getting them into the coop at night, is it secure in all areas? Could they feel scared to go in? If you feel it’s safe enough, lock them in there for a day or two and they should go in naturally. Same with the ducks, mine all go into their pens at night to be locked up, it feels safer that way for them.

They are in a small fenced in area with a chain link fence. I have two small coops out there but nobody wants to go in and the stupid door wont close on it due to swelling from the rain. I am going to have to find another coop to use and just force them in there at night. I am going to trap the raccoon or whatever got my buff and he/she will be relocated..........six feet under.

Having a safe coop for night time will cut down on losses from predators a lot. It needs to be comfortable for the birds so they will go in at night, have roosting places, and good ventilation. Little box coops aren't it!
Chickens are happy to roost in a larger coop that works for them, and it needs to be as safe as possible.
