Something got my chicken :(

Update: I believe it was an aerial attack, they don't wamt to come out from under deck unless we're with them, tgey also aren't bawking, so seems like they're trying to be low key.

I had something similar happen this week to my chickens. Found one dead in the coop in the morning and another very badly beaten up. We took her out for the night and kept her in a dog crate for the day. Came home and she's gone. No feathers no blood. Nothing. She's just gone. I feel just as horrible as you do. I bought a trail came today to watch what it is coming around the coop at night. My poor ladies don't want to leave their coop for long anymore.

Something got her out of a dog cage

They will do that anytime something like that happens

So then is still could be something land dwelling? I'm losing sleep over this, I can't buy a run right now. I thought they were safe, we've lived here for almost 3 months, never had a problem. People on both sides have dogs, maybe the smell of the dogs that lived here prior finally wore off :(.

Oh man, I hope you can figure it out and stop it, I wish I had a cam at this point. That's so sad, I'm sorry :(

These are a few pics of my back yard. Lots of tree coverage. The one is dead center next to my koi pond.

I'm so sorry for your loss. About a month ago my day was going as normal- I let my ducks out at 7am. At 8am hubs left for work and all 5 were running around the backyard. At 9am I walked out after eating breakfast and only had 4 ducks. I spent most of the day searching my yard and the woods behind my house and had some family come help too. The craziest part was- my mom looked at the other 4 ducks and said "If you guys help find her I'll bring you a special treat".
Within 10 minutes the other 4 lined up on the edge of the woods and stared into the woods. We went straight back where they lined up and in between a pile of fallen trees (It's not my property, not sure who owns it but it's a hot mess) I found my baby girl. Something had dragged her into the woods, ripped her head off and eaten her breasts and left the rest there for me to find.
Now- I'm vegetarian and very against animal cruelty, but I wanted to burn the whole forest down and shoot anything that moved in it. (of course I didn't though)
We buried her in the backyard and didn't let the other 4 see her all torn up.
For days the other 4 didn't act normal and they kept looking into the woods. Hubs bought them a massive new pool to lift their spirits and slowly but surely things have returned to what normal it can be.
I stopped letting them free range unless where right there with them or it's cool enough for me to open the windows in my house to hear them. I'm locked & loaded by every door- just in case.
I had them a 10x20 pen that I never intended to keep them in full time, but they were spending most of their time there. This past weekend I bought more chainlink fencing off craigslist and expanded so they would have more room. My next step is to complete protection from the top as we have a redtail hawk hanging out nearby. I've also considered electric fencing borders too.
I know it hurts. And I wish I could say it gets back to 100% normal but over a month later it still hurts. Just give your other babies extra treats and play with them a little longer each day, because it almost feels like something else will always have their eyes on them.
If you want to send me a message with the pic I'll see if it looks like my girl did. I'm 100% certain mine was a raccoon.
