Injuries to the comb scab black it does not necessarily mean it is dead. Just make sure it is clean and use the neosporin. My birds frequently get little black spots on their combs (from pecking and foraging in the bushes I think) and they heal quickly.

I would be careful about any medicine getting in her eye. Noticed it is swollen, but when it opens alittle just be careful eyes are very sensitive! Hope she gets better! Rest Rest Rest!

Ah..I actually wouldn't worry that much apart from wondering who did it to her. Recently got new hens, hens beat her up real bad

Her face was swollen, and both eyes closed comb was just blood, but after only 4 days she is a whole lot better just a bit bold where her feather were pecked xD

I did not administer anything just washed her face over with warm flannel to get rid of any rubbish.
I hope shes okay though, but to give you hope my hen pulled through, so hopefully yours should too! :3

The dead parts of the comb will just shrivel up and fall off, but you do run the risk of infection. You may consider just going ahead and dubbing it.

Whenever mine get hurt I wash the wounds with sterile saline (1 qt boiled water and 1/4t salt) and generous amounts of Neosporin. They may act depressed for a day or so, but they'll bounce back quicker than you think.

Personally, I don't give antibiotics or pain meds as a general rule and mine have healed perfectly without. I had a pullet that was laid open from the top of her head to she shoulder, about 6" long, 3" wide with muscle and bone showing and she healed perfectly with saline and neosporin.

Can't give you much better advice, but since I'm dealing with an injured chicken myself, I'll tell you what might apply to you.

Mine was injured by an opossum, so it's not exactly the same, but her injures were also to her eyes. It was recommended to use Terramycin ointment on the eyes, to help keep an infection from ocurring. I've been using them even though she got a terrible infection. If nothing else, it seems to help lubricate here eyes and keep them from being glued shut.

Wash the wounds carefully a few times a day and make sure she's eating and drinking. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you. Here's a link to my thread, maybe you could read it over and see what info might be helpful to you.
