I keep our flock fairly guarded. They have a “predator proof” run attached the their coop. Buried apron if hardware cloth and enclosed with the same to include solid latches. However… when I’m home and outside doing yard work we like to let them free range as much as possible. We’ve had a loss before, so we take more precautions. But the other day I was clearing leaves and heard a loud chicken yell. I went back saw a poof of feathers and immediately knew something got our jersey red hen. I was upset and frustrated. BUT yesterday around 4pm… I hear another loud noise so I check and there she is. She came back just like that. No injuries or anything. Anyone ever experience anything like this?? She was gone for a little

It's common for them to escape the attack, and be traumatized to a point that they just hide for a day or so. Sounds like it could have been a hawk that attacked, but hard to be sure.
Glad she's safe.
