hello all. i have a year and three month old barred rock hen who suddenly has a limp. i picked her up and checked to see what was wrong and she has a black looking growth on her foot. i have attached a picture for reference. she was completely fine all week, not showing any signs. then this afternoon she suddenly had a limp.... and you get the idea. has anyone experienced this before? i do not want to lose another hen, we have lost two this year already.
is there a diagnosis and treatment or is it a wait it out kind of a deal? please please help i don’t know what to do. thank you all

I'd agree that she seems to have bumblefoot. I'd do a good soak in an epsom salt bath, and then see if you can get the scab off with some tweezers. @Eggcessive can probably help you out more than I can.

edit: both of my other hens in that pen have it. one very small and the other the same as the first one but on both feet.

do you know of a substitute for vetericyn? i do not have access to any i checked everywhere!!

Neosporin will work as a vetricyn sub, I have hens with a small bumlefoot and dont treat them, only if it hinders their walking.
thank you. i treated all three of mine and one of them had an abscess so i used hydrogen peroxide to drain it and they are doing pretty good! definitely not themselves again quite yet but they are eating and drinking just fine. :)
