I have 7 hens that are banties mixes. I have 6 Roosters of the same kind (that was suppose to be hens but weren't). Also I have 6 RIR that are about 2 1/2 months old now. The Bantam mixes are 4 1/2 months old. I also have three muscovy ducks two female one male. A turkey that is about 8 weeks old. LOL a pot belly pig and two white rabbits. Not that you needed to know all this but I thought it might be nice to add.

I have a issue I am concerned about. One of my Hens started laying out of the blue and has layed about 9 eggs. About 5 days ago she stopped laying. Five days ago I caught her on her favorite laying box and was acting like she was going broody. All fluffed out and very nasty behavior. I knew she had a egg under her so I let her be. WELL, my 12 year old stepson went out to the coop and chased her off the nest and took her egg. He came in and showed it to me and I was pretty upset with him. So I went out there to see if she was back in the nesting box, and she was. So I left her alone. She stayed there for a couple of days. I checked on her everyday. Now its been three days and she has gotten off the nesting box and hasn't been back and still no eggs. I am kinda new to this. So my concern was since my step son disturbed her is that a major problem? I read that once a chicken goes broody she will stop laying is this correct? Why hasn't she went back to the nesting box? She still hangs out in the coop by herself but she just stays on the roost above the nesting box. And today for some odd reason she let me pick her up. She has never been handled because she is so fast and hard to catch. I walked right up to her and she just purred a little and looked a little nervous but let me pick her up. So I was concerned about her well being like sickness or stressed because her egg is gone.

I was shocked to find her first egg. 4 months is a little young to be laying isn't it? Also at what age do RIR start laying?

Thank you so much

I agree, it sounds like she's been trying her hand at broodiness. It's a horomonal fluctuation, and I think we all know how confusing that can be

. If she did go in and out of it that quickly, she probably doesn't even know which way is up.

Give her some time, she'll sort herself out and either get right back to brooding or egglaying.
