SOMETHING IS TAKING THE CHICKENS FEATHERS AND ALL!!!

Quote:
Find one of my earlier posts on trapping and what I caught. I was lucky the person wasn't injuried or killed. NEVER say you will shoot someone, when that person comes up
shot, who is the first person the law will look for?

The law wouldn't have to look far. If someone comes onto my property and messes with my babies, I'm shooting him! May only shoot him in the butt, but he won't mess with my critters again.

the problem can be coyote, hawk, fox, dog. even though coyotes are night hunters they do hunt in daylight as well. it would be a wise idea to keep them penned with a topper on it.

According to my neighbor, a missing chicken with few or no feathers is usually an adult fox. Feathers all over the place are fox kits learning to hunt (thus the struggle). I can't recall the signs of a coyote and a puff of feathers without a trail is usually a hawk ... or so he said.

We have had both the feathers all over the place and the missing chicken with few or no feathers to mark their demise and we've seen the fox so I tend to believe he's right. Our chickens are currently on daytime lock down and will be allowed to start free-ranging again in a few weeks, once we're reasonably sure the fox have moved on ... for the year.

I just started checking with BYC..We just lost 2 chicks 1 month old. No sign of anything. They are fenced in. Neighbor thought he heard something at 6 am but no crowing or a bunch of noise. Someone mentioned a black snake. We checked the fence and can find no holes. Help:(
