My rooster is alittle over 2 yrs old, I'm not sure what kind he of chicken he is. (white w/ black tail feathers and specks on his wings) real pretty bird. He hasn't felt well for about 2 days, he wont eat, or drink. (just earlier I was outside giving him water off a spoon, he'll drink if i spoon water him) What freaks me out though is the fact that he wont close his break all the way, and makes this really light click/cluck/squeak/rusty metal on metal sound every two/three seconds. Like he is having trouble breathing or something (even though he still is crowing often, and its loud) and He doesnt want to stay in his pen, he wants to walk around and sit under bushes, and in corners so people can't can't see him.
I know he is feeling sad, I've babied him and watered him and made him eat a cricket.

Please Throw youre advice my way, Thanks Cari

Well I'm not a rooster expert but this happened to my hen. The noise could be caused by something he ate. Like a big bug was too big for him. He might not be choking but he might have something caught in his throat. Just make sure he drinks plenty of water. Either that is the issue or he really is sick with something. If u could send a picture
Of his vent and eyes it would help me and everyone on BYC.

there isnt anything different about is eyes, vent or feathers. I have checked him for anything that seems off. he looks fine. Other then the fact that his comb keeps changing color. It'll get dark (like a grey, and the next minute i check on him its red again)
I DO think he is having trouble breathing, I dont know if it's due to something in his throat or something in his lungs. Someone told me it could be a flu, since the weather has been back and forth lately, but i'm not sure. his eyes and beak are clear of gunk.

He may have aspirated some fluid. I would inject him with Penicillin or treat with Tylan in the water. That might be hard if he's not drinking that much. The other thing is that he may have congestive heart failure.

One more thing to check is his nostrils, check to make sure they are not plugged with feed. Any discoloration of comb?

I have on several occasions had to dig impacted feed from the nostrils of one of my big roosters,he loves fermented feed and sticks his whole face in it with impacted nostrils being the result. Symptoms in his case always are: discolored comb/funny breathing, soon as i clean out nostrils, his comb resumes normal color and breathing becomes regular.

I just had to do this to one of my roos. He has small nose holes and he plugged them with feed or what ever he was in to. Cleaned them out and back to normal ;)
