Something I've always wanted to know...

I not only talk, I lecture. My roo has two favorites who are missing some feathers. I explained to him that I didn't want any more naked chickens, and if they continued to be naked or become more naked that he was going to be separated from his ladies. I also reminded him that I don't need a roo for eggs. Trust me, by the look on his face, he knew what I was saying.

On another note, whenever I go to the coop, everyone is lined up at the fence. If they had teeth, they'be giving me some big cheesy grins and telling me what good chickens they had been and wanting to know if I brought some goodies.

I talk to my chickens ALL THE TIME. It's sad but true. LOL When I head out unlock their pop door in the morning and they are still on their roost and I say "good morning girls" and they immediately start to coo and cluck...ya, ya, I know it's cause they know they are gonna get let out but I like to think they are excited to see me. They also do come when I say "come here girls" so that's cool too.

Absolutely I talk to my chickens!! I also hug on them and kiss on them and chatter like them. I'm the Chicken Whisperer don'tcha know. hee hee hee... My girls talk to me in purrs and trills and coos when they hear my voice. And they crowd around me when I kneel down so that they can hop on my arms or legs and be near me. My oldest roo crows to me and is happy to see me as well. I think a few of my pullets get a little jealous when I hold someone new that isn't usually on my lap. They come over and watch and wait to be petted as well. I have to explain to them that everyone deserves some love and their turn will come. But my favorite is still napping with them in the afternoon when it is nice and sunny outside.

I talk to my hens, goats, horses, dogs you name it! I thank my horses for the ride when I get off, I thank my hens for eggs and pat my does on the thigh and thank them for their milk when I'm done milking... We're considered insane by normal soceity but I think they're all the crazy ones!

I talk to and argue with my 'lead' hen-- our barred Rock, Silver. She coos and talks back to me, so it's very easy to end up having a long, involved conversation with her. She'll keep responding, as long as I keep talking

.

She even has my MIL trained when she comes over. She always says 'hi' to Silver first, and the next thing out of her mouth is usually 'oh, really?'
