Something odd happened...? Pest Control & fertilizer related.

Not just in the garden. Everywhere. The house, the barn, the coop, the yard, the woods... it's just one of those years. The free-ranging chickens get many, but not all of them. What part of the US are you in, if you are in the us? I am in SW VA
It is definitely a weird year!

I'm by the Idaho Utah border.
 
Since most if not all of the manures that is sold at big box stores are sterilized, I wouldn't think that is the problem, could be but I doubt it.

I lay a lot of manure (cattle, sheep, goat, poultry and rabbit) from my farm on my gardens and fields in the fall as an organic matter (not as a fertilizer) and in the spring one of the dry fertilizers I use contains composted unsterilized laying hen manure along with Feather Meal, Bone Meal, Potash, Leonardite Ore, Kelp and Humic Acid and I can't say I had a problem with earwigs.

It might be your location and the weather you are having this year.
