I hav a buff orpington who is broody, I took her out of the nesting box and put her on the ground. She saw one of my cream legbar youngsters and had a real go at her. Before I got to her to stop it the head hen rushed in gave a few well placed pecks and chased her off. This is where it got weird the buff girl tried to go after the youngster again but was cornered by all the other hens, they blocked her in the corner of the garden and wouldn't let her move for about ten minutes when she did get out scrappy the boss shadowed the girl she tried to attack until she was left alone! Burffy has left the little one alone since then has anyone lose have this done?

What a good observation of flock dynamics. But no, I haven't caught my birds doing anything so intellegent yet.

Yup!

When we close up the breeding pens, and put everyone back together, the hens have to sort it all out all over again. Our Dominant rooster, Abraham, will put up with it for a few minutes then he gets involved, getting between the two who are having "issues" and keep himself close to the one who is the instigator. Quite interesting to watch. Yes, there will be some good pecks landed, but it all gets worked out without too much damage. Looking forward to tit again this coming Saturday afternoon.....
