Hi all,
I have a hen who has something strange sticking from her vent - it seems like a dry and wrinkled rubbery mass at the end, but with a tube-like fleshy part which extends back into the vent. I could pull it so far, but then it wouldn't come out any further, as if it was connected inside. Or maybe the tube-like thing is part of the insides? Or maybe it would've pulled out if I had pulled harder, but I didn't want to damage anything by pulling too hard. It's not like what comes out when a hen is prolapsed, though - I've seen that enough times before. My initial thought was that it was some kind of 'lash' (apparently that's a term used to describe the rubbery fleshy things hens sometimes pass), but the only ones of those I've seen have been passed without any problems by my other hens, none have ever been stuck like this thing. I've pulled out the soft shells of eggs from other hens before too, but this is quite different.
I have no pics as yet. Otherwise she seems her happy normal self, eating and drinking fine. She hasn't layed any eggs for a while, and may well be coming to the end of her laying life.
Any ideas/advice?
