IMG_2895.JPG Please help!!!! Something took my baby!!!!! My bantam hen who is a few years old was snatched today by some mother ******** thing!!!! What animal do you think it is? Today was raining and my mom let my chickens out to free range. And in the evening she tells me she can't find her. There was a lot of her feathers in the coop, and a some out of the coop, there was also a patch of her feathers on the ground that was together. Please help. Do you think she's still alive.

Unfortunately, those are common earmarks of a Fox or Coyote. It's highly unlikely that she is still alive. I'm so sorry :hugs

I haven't seen a fox in my area in a long time! We have raccoons and my dad saw a snake in the yard I live on Long Island New York :(

Don't know where you live or what predators you have, but even though it doesn't look good. I would still make my rounds before dark, just in case. Then prepare to get rid of the culprit. So sorry you have a predator. Good luck getting rid of it.

She was my baby I'm so upset
I'm so sorry for you. It could have been a coon, but unlikely as they tend to leave more evidence. I did have a really big coon leave the same feather pattern for one of my turkeys, but she survived the attach and later got taken by a coyote. Last time a coon family got one of my young birds all I had in the shelter was her gizzard as it wouldn't fit through the wire. Then I found a trail of bits and parts all the way back to her lair... She's now in my freezer. Do you have eagles up there? It could be an eagle, a really big hawk, or a great horned owl. Generally Arial predators only take the head--but eagles take the whole bird. Again sooo sorry for your loss. :hugs

Thanks for the replies, I live in New York , Long Island. We have raccoons and foxes I guess , and snakes I think and stray cats too

I found a feather near the tree. Maybe it took my baby up the tree and over the fence or climbed up the wood pile

Do you think theirs still a chance she's alive ? Also how can I find the predator I want it's head CHOPPED OFF! Where would I look for her .
