I went outside to let everyone out this morning and to my horror, one of my roosters is all tore up.
It was already dark when we closed everyone up last night so I am not sure just when yesterday
this happened.
Something grabbed him by the head and he pulled away. The skin from the back of his head and neck
is ripped away. No flesh is missing. No fresh bleeding. He is on his feet but does not want to eat or drink
right now. I have put some ointment on his wound and have him in the pen by himself.
If he survives the day, I will have to put him in a safe place so the other chickens don't pick on him.
I am open to suggestions of other things to treat his injuries.
Thanks
Cindy

Ah didn't realize it happen before he was put up. Just keep up with the antibiotic ointment. Epsom salts would be good for it though I guess you can't soak his head! Maybe put soak a rag and appy it for a bit?

Well he is still on his feet and I have seen him take a drink of water. I will have to bring
him indoors tonight so he doesn't get picked on.

The more I look at him, the more I think a dog gabbed him. I now see what appear to be
teeth marks. There are a couple of dogs that I have seen occasionally in my pasture.
I have not seen them come near the house or chase after the chickens.
I will bring him in tonight, It's supposed to get pretty chilly and he has no feathers
on his head and neck. He looks like a Turken.

Well he made it through the night

This morning I put him in the sink with warm soapy water
and did some cleaning and trimmed away some feathers.
He took it like a trooper and was very calm.
I gooped him up real good with ointment and put him back in
the crate to dry off. He is eating and drinking.
