Something was hanging from my duck's butt-and it's not an egg!

It definetly appears to be a khaki campbell. After mounting the penis will be noticable until it is retracted back up. The drake feathers will come back....he MAY be molting as he looks a little rough in that one pics....looks like a molting duck lol

What's throwing me is the color....boys are usually different colors, unless of course he is young!

EXACTLY! The color is what is getting me.I have never kept ducks before and this one is a rescue (he/she was dumped in the city with clipped wings) so I have no history on this duck. It does quack differently than the Welsh Harlequin. Maybe after a molt it will appear differently? We named the brown one in question Shirley and the other duck is Laverne so we may be changing names.

I freely admit I know nothing about ducks but my first thought was Worms. I've seen them in my cats "hanging out and going back in"

Male khaki Campbell from the looks of it. We have lots of juvenile boys that look about like him currently. Only a few are starting to get their green heads.

Does it help if I tell you this duck likes to nip at me and my husband. At first it was cute and now it HURTS sometimes. It is grab on and twist and then walk away, turn around and come back and nip over and over. I have said "NO" in a firm voice and turned away, never actually struck the duck, but I don't run either, I don't want him/her to think I am scared. (I am not, but dang it can hurt though.) Do males do this or females? Our other duck (I think female) doesn't even attempt this behavior.

I can't quit staring at the butt now

I have had these two ducks for a little over 3 weeks and this was the first time I noticed. We have a pool for them and they are in it quite a bit. Do drakes often show their penis? (Oh gosh I can't believe I just asked that!) What about drake feathers? Would it eventually get one? Does it appear to be a khaki campbell duck? (see above link to thread which shows the brown duck.)

It shows right after mating, it takes a few min to go back in. If it is mating though I would think the drake feather would be showing. unless like some one posted it got plucked out some how.

watch the kiddee pool most ducks like to mate in water. although they don't have to have water to mate. You may have ducklings this year. How do you feel about that?

When I first introduced the Welsh Harlequin to the KC, I thought at first the KC was trying to drown the WH (thinking they were both females!) and she didn't like her in the pool. EVERY time I would put them in the water together the KC would chase over to the other one, grab the neck and try to climb on top of her. AH HA! Now with all the pieces fitting together, I think I DO have a drake. New question: The Welsh Harlequin has not laid a single egg since I've had her (little over a week) so what happens now?

She'll begin to lay eventually, but for her protection because the drakes can be rough I'd think about getting another duck or 2. I'd have to agree you deff have a drake.

I'd get at least one other if not two more girls. Just works out better for all that way.
