Hello-

I have 17 silkies and I was wondering if it is normal for silkies to have six toes. Forteen of the silkies have five toes on there feet, one has six toes, and the other has five toes on one foot and four toes on the other.

Thanks!

Never mind, I posted it.

Normal toes for a Silkie is 5 on each foot. It is not too unusual for them to be plus or minus. I just would not recomend using the ones with the odd toes for breeding purposes but it should not cause them any problems health wise if you are just having them for pets.

Ok. I'm showing 1 or 2 of 'em, but I have seven out the forteen, and I'm selling some of the cockerels. So I'll have plenty of them to show. Can I still show the one with six toes?

Thanks!

I would not recommend it if you have other options. It will certianly be a deduction. There is a silkie thread that if VERY chatty and very useful for answering these kinds of questions. They love their silkies and have more experience on what shows well and what doesn't. Just do a search for Silkie thread and you shouldn't have any problem finding it, or scroll down in the breeds, genetics and showing forum and you should find them. Good luck.
