I recently decided to get some more chickens for personal enjoyment. I had a young man do most of the work on building a 9x10 coop and a 20x10 run. I could not do the work because of health problems. Yesterday I came home to find the covering on my run had broken loose on one corner and I climbed on a ladder to reattach the corner. As I looked down I realized i could not see where the hardware wire attached to my coop on the back side. Further examination revealed that there was not any wire to prevent digging on the back 9 ft of my coop. The young man had not placed wire on that part of the coop.
So I have faithfully been locking my hens in a coop every night that was not predater proof. Just got lucky but situation has been taken care of so that they are now safe. Just goes to show that we need to be ever vigilant to protect our birds.
