Like the title says, My soon to be 3yr old son decided to get into my bator while no one was looking. I had 24 Coturnix Quail eggs I set last night in it. 2/3rds are cracked or have dimples in them from being dropped. A few were completely scrambled in the bottom of the bator.

I took clear nail polish and covered the cracks in the bad ones and filled the dimples in the other bad ones. My question is... What are the odds of any of them surviving? Anyone had this happen before with any kind of a happy ending? It's not too big of a deal I guess since they are so fresh and my quail are laying daily but it took me a week to collect that many to even start and I hate to have to wait and start over again.

It just sucks and I'm hoping for some support from someone that has had good end results trying to hatch cracked eggs.

Thanks for listening to me rant...

I have no idea honestly. I think maybe the cracked ones may survive but the ones that had dents...likely not. It will be interesting to see which ones make it though. Keep us posted! Sorry for the losses.

My 3 year old scares me every time he glances at the bator. He wants to HELP!

I'm sorry for your losses!

The only cracked egg I tried to repair was a shipped egg that did not develop, but it cant hurt to try:hugs

I don't know about it I have one I got a dimple in from a hen that lays rarely but I've been trying to get chick's from. I put it in any ways hoping for the best. Post and let us know how they do I'll do the same.

Kids do the darnest things don't they. Well this is my first time at hatching and I just set 40 quail eggs in my bator last night, and while I was putting them in I felt something and looked and sure enough I had 3 with dimples in the side. So I did the same thing you did. I bought these and they were shipped and 5 were extras so I figured what am I out give it a try. So I'll keep watching and let you know how mine turn out we can see if it works or not.

I tried that a week ago and it didn't work. I apparently cracked one candling and there was no oozing and candled it and could see faint lines coming from the crack but melted wax on it anyway thinking it might be ok. Well turns out about 4 days later there was a stink in bator and sure enough I caught it early. Look for the faint lines from that crack and make sure you don't see those. Looked like lightning strikes coming from the dented crack, so apparently it busted the inner lining of the egg. Hope everything will be ok for you. Good Luck
