My opinion would be to get yourself some Black Australorps. They're commonly carried by feed stores in the Western states. Every BA I've had has been uber friendly and they are great layers!!! Plus they're such pretty ladies.

Welcome!! I have 2 speckled sussex hens that are "cuddly." They come up in sit in your lap. They are also good egg layers. Research them...great birds!
