Soon to be chicken parents

Ron,

No, I'm making it our own as I go along. Gonna pick up lumber on Monday, and start framing on Thursday. It will be more house than they need, just hoping I get all the finer details right...
Welcome. That sounds exciting! You might want to talk to chicken people in your area, too. Different styles of coops work better in different parts of the country. We sure wish we would have talked to more chicken people here in Florida before we built our first coop... :)

Document it in a coop page article. There are regular contests with prizes for the winners.

Hi John / Christina and welcome to BYC.

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/website-announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3/?prefix_id=3

Hi! It sounds like you will have a lovely group. It sounds like you all had a hand in picking out your birds which makes it fun. Nothing wrong with fancy birds :) And with 10 different breed you will be able to tell them apart! Have fun building your coop & enjoy your new little fluffy friends when they show up.

We are fairly new to chickens too. My husband wants them for the eggs.....my daughter and I like them for their personalities. My daughter picked out 99% of ours. I just insisted on the Silver Laced Wyandottes because they are so pretty. Ours are 5 months old now and just starting to lay. And even though all of them are not laying yet we still have more eggs than we are using so we have given away 3 dozen eggs.

We ordered the following (one of each): White Plymouth Rock, Partridge Cochin, Buff Laced Polish, Silver Cuckoo Marins, Dark Cornish, Australorpe, Bard Plymouth Rock, Buff Brahma, Buff Orpington, and one mystery chicken. We ordered them from MyPetChicken.

Hopefully they will mix well. I just wanted one black and one white regular chicken. The rest of the family opted for fancier chickens. We opted to have them vaccinated. Very excited to get them all!

Nice selection of breeds! My mom only likes Barred Rocks and White Silkies but I will probably have a rainbow flock one day.
