I live in the mountains of Montana and have been living the snowboarding and adventurer lifestyle for the past 5 years. Now it's time to settle down with my man in Minnesota where I'm originally from. We are looking for a house in the scandia/forest lake area with acerage. Have family in Stillwater and lake Elmo Mn.

I raised my parents egg laying flock of 12 or so three different times. culled two flocks after they where only a couple years old to start anew (because of diseases obtained from buying adult birds with dormant viruses from a large seller at a swap.) I took samples of their blood to the university of Minnesota to find out exactly what they had. Two different forms of mycoplasma and bronchitis. So I'm fluent in chicken I think.

I have many exciting things planned for my ultimate chicken habitat and chicken house when we buy our house. It will have the largest chicken run ever! Probably share a wall with the house so that it can HAVE WATER ALL WINTER! genius I am.
Many things I wish I could have done when I lived with my parents and ran their chicken coop my way will be happening soon.

Well, I've always had a dream to raise ducks but never had the option living with my parents. I've researched significant hours and read many forums with first hand accounts of raising a duck as closely as we plan to raise this little girl. Put together the needed supply's. But We arnt waiting untill we get the house this summer. My significant other and I are going to be duck mom and dad soon. We have our little buff duck baby coming in the mail on Wensday April 23rd. She will be a house duck, diapers and all!
So excited.

We have a service dog in the house but she was raised with chickens and chicks crawling all over her and we have concluded the only way she could hurt it is by being over protective and running to bark at somthing at the front door and knocking over the duck.

My parents dogs on the other hand where allowed to chase and bark at chickens as they grew up :(. Their prey drive is very high compared to Lexy the service dogs prey drive. So will have to make accommodations special for the duckling when we visit to see houses again in a couple weeks.

So super excited for the ducks to arrive. I want to raise a single duck so im finding a good home with similar smart people to take the sister duck. The minimal order was to ducklings from metzners hatchery.
The heater arrives Monday, last second I realized that I can't risk having a heat lamp in the house for in case of fire. So I ordered the eco-glow 20.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your duckling, hope they arrive safely!

I believe there is a thread on BYC called "House Ducks," you could put that in the search box and it would pop up. Hope everything goes as planned. Welcome to BYC.

The baby's have arrived! I got up bright and early to be ready for the call. They called at 6:10 and I was on the way. In the bathroom when they called and missed the call but drove to the main post office in town, and went o the front door. Got the voicemail while I was inside waiting for someone to check for the birds for me that I should go to a back door. And that's what the guys came back and told me once he checked with the people that had the birds by the express pick up door, on the other side of the building. So anyways. These are pictures from that.

After a full day with the two baby's, I picked one and the other went to another family.

The one I picked is smaller, and quieter. She's a good jumper but not so good at following feet. So far this is what I've found in her personality.
