Soon-to-Be (Hopefully) Duck Mom

Hello BYC Community!

I received my first round of duck eggs as an early Christmas present this year. I grew up in the mountains of Virginia and I've always wanted my own little duck family. This year, Santa surprised me with my very own duck eggs (5 mallard, 5 runner). I had to toss one already because it was oozing (and thanks to BYC I knew to toss it before it exploded and hurt the others!) so we're down to 9.

I have a homemade still air incubator and I'm looking forward to my first hatch on, or just after, my birthday in January. Looking forward to learning from and with all of you guys!

@sourland Thank you! Merry Christmas! They've been in the incubator for 5 days. I've read that candling can be done at day 7 and on. Any advice? I'd love to go ahead and candle them if its not too soon!

In my experience 5 days is a little early with duck eggs. Due to the size of the egg and shell coloration it can be difficult to see veining that early. I'd wait another 2 days.
