Hello, I am new to this forum. We have a flock of 16 chickens and earlier in the week we noticed some blood on the back of one of our chickens. The other chickens were pecking at her bottom. We separated her from the rest so they stop pecking at her. Today I tried to clean her up to see what is going on. All around her vent and below the vent is completely missing feathers and she has 2 spots that are dried, crusty blood like a scab. Nothing is sticking out of her vent from what I can see. Attached are 2 pictures that i took today. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is there anything that we should put on for a faster healing? How long can she go without food? We stopped feeding her tuesday so that she would stop laying and give her a break from laying.

I would. GIve it time to work, her time to heal without being picked on to keep re opening the wounds while they heal.

There is no reason to stop feeding her; that has little to do with laying. Just keep her separated and treat the wounds but give her food and water.

Ok. I was concerned that she had a protrusion. What may have caused this to happen to her?

How long should it take for her feathers to grow back? Was this caused by a molt or something else that caused the other hens to peck her feathers out?
