I posted in the bird section but only person answered but she didnt really know. My parakeet hatched a baby. I didnt expect this. can i touch the baby bird and check the other eggs? i have always heard, you touch a baby or eggs and the mother will no longer go to them. I hope this is an old wives tale.

I dunno. i would suggest you leave it alone for a few days before you try anything. this may help the momma bond with the baby--and she may toss out yucky eggs in the meantime.

Yep, do not touch the baby yet....parrots are persnickety. I have never raised them, but had a good friend who did. They can also hatch much more staggered than chickens, so I would leave them be.

Birds can't smell. That's why you can put chicks under other hens. Still you may disturb the hen to the point that she will abandon the chick. So let nature take care of things.
