I have a hen that's been broody for 3-4 weeks now. I have tried everything that I have read about in other posts and nothing has worked. Please let me know if I'm missing a solution.
1. I take her out the the egg box whenever I can. After about a minute of lying on the grass like a pancake, she'll walk around the yard and forage. She always makes her way back to the box.

2. I've waited until all of my other chickens had a chance to lay, then closed off the boxes for the rest of the day. I have to make sure that I've opened them back up before morning, though. In the morning when I check - - there she is - - right in the box.

3. I only have 2 egg boxes and she doesn't have a favorite. She'll sit in either all day.

4. I've waited until night time, then took her out of the box and set her on the perch. Next morning I got to check and she's right back in the box.

5. I've submerged her bottom in water for anywhere from 3-5 minutes. I've done this about once a week.

I noticed yesterday that all of my other chickens have large, vibrant, red cones on their heads. Hers is now smaller and more pink.

Can someone please help? I just read a post that said she could die from this! Like I said, she'll eat and poop, but gets right back in that box. If there's an egg in a box, she'll sit on it. Even with no eggs, she'll still sit. I'm very frustrated and concerned because I thought this was only supposed to last a few weeks.

Some broody hens will sit until eggs hatch so it's important to break them if you don't have any fertile eggs for her. They don't eat or drink as much as they normally would and it's not good for them in the long term. Have you tried putting her in a wire crate with no bedding for a few days? I've heard that that's the go to method to "break" a broody. Good luck!
