Hey everyone! My name is Melissa, and I started raising my chickens two years ago. I have a variety of hens, who I spoil pretty rotten. I started raising my girls for eggs, and for enjoyment. I didn't realize how MUCH I would enjoy having them! I have Easter egger, cherry egger, buff orphington, barred rock, white rock, black Australian australorp, silver laced wyandotte', and one hamburg. My kids and I spend a lot of time with them, and they love the attention.
I decided to come to an online site to be able to speak with other chicken enthusiasts, because there is a wealth of information that can be shared among people that you just cant get from a book. I am also having an issue with one of my cherry eggers and one of my buffs that the books i have really cant clarify, and i was hoping that someone here can help me.
I only get this every few days it seems, not every day. I since i have two cherry eggers, i don't know which is having the issue. It looks to me like there is either smeared color from the bloom, or there is smeared blood on the egg. I cant really tell due to lack of experience on my part. None of the other hens seemed to have noticed this on the shell and pecked at it.
Also, i have a buff who is much smaller that my other two, and just doesnt look...right. She has energy, she isnt behaving like she is sick, and she eats and scratches with everyone else. But her feathers look terrible, and i dont think she is molting. The top of her head looks like most of her feathers are gone.
Any advice would be really appreciated!
