Son is, as I type, processing my Black Australorp roo and I always go through this when HE processes of thinking"NO-DON"T DO IT-BRING HIM BACK". Its hard when the bird is an individual(was just 1 of 2 roos I have) and I DO get over it but I feel bad. This BA roo started spurring us(me the worst) a few months back and I have experience now that chickens ARE dumb and smacking at him made it worse. Recently our only defense was my big mouth(he would stop when I screamed his name and "NO" but am sure neighbors thought something horrid was happening to me) or carrying a long stick and(he tended to be more aggressive when you faced him) walking away when he was doing it and swing the stick behind me and for WHATEVER reason that worked. Nothing (and we tried SEVERAL METHODS) stuck so after my most recent scabs/bruises healed I decided ENOUGH. The only reason he was tolerated so long was I wanted to breed some BA layers(I do NOT sell birds so tempermant was unimportant) and his batch of 10 chix is 6 wks old now so..... On to another Roo I imagin. Have a 1+ yr. old barred rock roo that is very agreeable(altho he recently started fighting with the deseased ba roo) RIP blackfoot and your beauty will be missed(but my legs are happier)

I may have to do this myself. I have been putting it off. I am now going in the runs at night to feed and water to avoid the roosters.
I really need to clean the coops, but it is hard to lock the boys up by themselves.
