This chick pipped around 3:30 this afternoon. Around 7:30 she opened up and her head and one eye is out. She has not made any progress since and just seems to push but then doesn’t go anywhere. My other chicks that hatched are knocking her around. What should I do? Should I help her hatch or take the other chicks out?

Hello What is the time for you right now on the clock? You said 7:30, how many hours ago was 7:30 for you? Is that the way the chick broke the shell off by itself in a big piece? Did the chick have any help from people breaking off the shell?

The other chicks are knocking her around. Are they dry and fluffy? And are there other pipped eggs besides this one?

It is now 11:30 and my first chick hatched sometime early morning and the rest followed in the morning and early afternoon. The 4 that hatched are all fluffy and moving around. The chick that is supposedly having trouble pipped around 3:30 maybe closer to 4:00 but I’m not exactly sure. It took the chick a while to get open like in the pics. She got half way open via the pics around 7:30 and has been that way since 11:30 (the time now). She is chirping and even looked at me but she keeps pushing and doesn’t get any farther. Some of her eggs is cracked around her too, but it’s not budging when she pushes. The other chicks are knocking her around as well.

Hello She is broken open enough to be dry inside and stuck. If the other chickens are dry and fluffy and this is the only chicken left I would help it a little bit. Her head is not tucked inside the shell anymore to turn her beak to break out. She is not strong enough to pull her head back inside to keep breaking the shell with her beak.

Put the other fluffy chickens in the warm brooder and crack open her egg along the long crack that you can see in the picture. Crack it open a little bit like if it just needed a tiny bit of the crack to get bigger and put the lid back on to see what the chick does. Try to notice if the membrane inside the shell is dry underneath the crack when you crack it open a little bit.

Does the chicken break free? Is it staying the same? Is it dry inside?

Hello Has any progress been made?
I helped her hatch bc she was trying to get out. I slowly picked away the hard shell and then got wet q-tips to dry the membrane. She popped out of the shell beautifully and is now in the incubator with her sisters! She is moving around and chirping so I’m hoping that is a good sign. There was no blood or anything thankfully. The only thing im worried about is that her umbilical cord is still attached. Is that something bad? I am new to chicks and this is my first time hatching ever.

Hello This is the best news! Dap some iodine in the umbilical cord and you will be done.
