Sour crop... again!

This is my second time posting about this!

My 10-ish week old Speckled Sussex still has sour crop! It has been a little more than 2 weeks now, she has been treated with miconazole, apple cider vinegar in water, yogurt, olive oil, etc. and nothing has fixed it. I am wondering if maybe it is because of an underlying issue or if I am just not doing enough?

She isn't lethargic at all, not sickly, wants to eat and drink, wants to be back outside with her sisters. Sleeps normally. She is pooping, so things are passing, but she is constantly trying to rearrange her crop and kicking at it with her foot. Her breath is sour. The crop feels like a water balloon.

I am wondering, is it because I am not massaging her? Should I be doing that, and how often? I am away at school a lot of the day so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to do it as much as I'd want to.. unless I ask my mom who is at home to do it for me. Should I be doing that, and putting olive oil in her too?

What else can I do for her? Should I try that first and see what happens?

My chickens are all vaccinated against Marek's.

Please do massage the crop, id do it 2-3 times a day, and try giving her some coconut oil (olive works to, i find better results with coconut though) ps, make sure the yogurt is plane and not flavored! Best of luck.

If you read through this article of mine https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/ you will see all of the different crop disorders and how we usually treat them. Your hen, acting normally, may have a condition called pendulous crop. Just as women with large breasts can have weak chest muscles that cause drooping, so can hens with heavy crops and weak chest muscles. A bra solves women's problems and a bra helps hens with this issue.

If the bra doesn't help, and you may need to adjust it before it's properly doing the job, then we may need to figure out if she has an underlying issue that may be causing the crop to slow.

Okay, i hope it does aswell. As yes, i forgot to mention, as azy said a bra works great to. (Chicken bra) to keep their crop in place.

I ordered a crop bra! I got one sized for a bantam chicken.. she's still young and therefore pretty small, I figured that would fit her better than one for an adult chicken. I will report back in a week or two when it is delivered to my house. I heard from someone else that Speckled Sussexes are prone to overeating and therefore are susceptible to these kinds of issues, which definitely makes sense with my Winona. Thank you so much!

This is the second post about a SS with sour crop- and my own SS is currently having an issue as well, hence why I went looking for it! I wouldn't say ours overeats, but she is very curious.. :/

Good luck!! It took us awhile to get her back to normal (well over a month) but it did come eventually! If she is curious, there may be a chance that she ate something she wasn't supposed to, and if so, do you think a trip to the vet would be possible? We got through this without a vet trip, but my girl eating too much food may be different than your girl eating something her body can't digest. How is she?

If she is curious, there may be a chance that she ate something she wasn't supposed to, and if so, do you think a trip to the vet would be possible? We got through this without a vet trip, but my girl eating too much food may be different than your girl eating something her body can't digest. How is she?

Yeah... this chicken has been to the vet A LOT. After a month of intense care, many vet visits, sub q fluids, tube feedings and medications... She's doing a lot better. But it was a lot of work! We have a second chicken having similar issues- the vets couldn't find anything toxic on either of them so assuming it's a partial obstruction from them eating long grass when we opened up another area of run for them. :/
