Sour crop and molting hen

:hugs

I would not use Fenbendazole during molt, it is known to cause issues with feather quality in molting birds.

The product you bought, I've never used that one. You'll have to research how it's given, I think that's like a pellet that goes in feed, but not sure.

Fenbendazole (Safeguard Liquid Goat Dewormer or Equine Paste) is what I use and what is normally recommended to use. Dose is by weight and given orally.

Valbazen is a dewormer that can be given during molt.
Ok so it sounds like I ordered the wrong product, I’ll still read the label to see if maybe I could use it during rotation later down the road when we worm again. Do you have a link for the valbazen that you use? I’ve read a lot of conflicting things about worming during molt and should only be done if a absolutely necessary. I’m not sure they have worms, but I wanted to be safe. I wish there was a simple way of detecting the presence of worms at home…. 🤔.

There is a lot of info out there.

Under Fenbendazole in Plumbs Drug Vet Manual it states not to use it during molt, may cause stunted feathers.
I don't see anything in the Manual that reads that way for Valbazen (Albendazole), but you may want to look it up just to be sure.

Valbazen is ordered online, of course prices keep going up, but a bottle will last a long time, there's many doses in a bottle!

Safeguard Liquid Goat Dewormer. Same with this, many doses in a bottle and it will last quite a while.

Some people invest in a microscope and do their own tests. I've seen a few people also mention they used a mail in service, you can order the kit from Amazon and mail a sample in for testing. You may want to check that out.

Wow awesome thank you for all the great info! I was feeling overwhelmed with all the information online and in my chicken keeping book. It seems that the valbazen might be my best bet for this situation, I’m going to do a little more reading on it.

I found a really interesting website that explains how they perform a fecal float test. The microscopes are about $100 plus you’ll need other supplies, but it could be neat to have on hand, I’m pretty nerdy. 🤓https://fiascofarm.com/goats/fecals.htm

Thanks again! I’ll let you know what happens.
