I was concerned about one of our 2 year old Wyandottes two days ago, picked her up and extremely smelly yellowish liquid started pouring out of her mouth. Carefully held her pointed somewhat down, and a good 3 to 4 ounces poured out. Definite sour crop indication. Immediately took her inside to our improvised chicken hospital. Kept her without food or water for 18 hours, then gave her some water (with ACV and probiotics) and a little food, she only took a tiny amount and she poured a few more ounces of that liquid out her mouth. Ordered Nystatin shipped overnight (thank you birdpalbroducts.com great service). She pooped a bit, yellow and urates, and I spotted a round worm. (since yesterday I've spotted 5 or 6 worms in her poop, each one two to three inches long). Immediately started treatment with Safeguard (Fenbendazole). Today was the second day of treatment, and the Nystatin was delivered today.
My question- I'm concerned about drug interaction, the roundworms could be the underlying condition triggering the sour crop, so I think that until they are resolved the sour crop won't resolve. Is it best to wait for the 5 day cycle of Fenbendazole, and then start the Nystatin? Or at least wait until the third or fourth day? She is weak, hardly eating or drinking, so I don't want to shock her system with too much medication.
(BTW, I've also started treating our 5 others with the Safeguard/Fenendazole.)
