A day and a half ago I noticed one of my hens was very lethargic, and quickly figured out that it was sour crop. Since, I have given her apple cider vinegar, tried to feed her yogurt, and given her a small dose of yeast infection cream (clotrimazole). I've also massaged her crop, and when all this failed to change anything, briefly tipped her upside down to empty some of the fluid. Her crop now seems a lot better, but she has no appetite. She was already a very skinny chicken (malnourished rescue) and I'm afraid that if she goes much longer without food she'll perish. I haven't had a syringe on hand for feeding, but I just got one. Also don't have access to nutri-drench or other supplements. Should I force-feed her yogurt? Any other at-home supplements that will help? She barely has the energy to stand.

Crop yeast infections have to be treated for a full week to cure them. Miconazole or the clotrimazole are fine for treating your hen. You need to treat twice a day for a full seven days.

Try to avoid making her vomit as it's too easy for the fluid to slip into the airway and end up in the lungs causing pneumonia.

Thank you very much, I didn't know the treatment was that long. Still unclear on how I should feed her - just yogurt for now by putting it in her mouth?

Let your hen decide when to eat, what to eat, and how much. Offer her low carb things like raw carrot, raw squash, boiled egg, and dry crumbles. Her appetite will improve as the yeast becomes under control.

Yogurt and probiotics are good things to help restore her intestines and crop to normal balance.

@Soot the silkie how did it go with your hen? I have one now that has the same issue (I believe so anyway). Crop was squishy and large (but still firm if that makes any sense--just not HARD) this morning...might have been that way yesterday as well, but I didn't notice. (Everyone will get daily crop checks now). She is VERY lethargic. Drinking some but no interest in food for a few days (unless it is fruit). I started the miconazole this morning after reading the difference between impacted and sour/slow crops. I am nervous I am doing the wrong thing or not enough for her. She has lost alot of weight lately....she was treated with Corid back in June and things haven't been great since. Poops are all watery when I have seen them.
