Sour Crop in Chick

Hello...AGAIN. Lol. So I have a chick that I’m currently treating for coccidia. I posted earlier. She didn’t eat yesterday and hasn’t today, either; but her crop feels mushy. I did mix some yogurt in with her feed, and she ate a smidge of it with my putting some on her beak. Pretty sure it’s sour crop. I smelled her breath, but I don’t smell anything. Should I wait until morning and see if her crop is empty or treat her for sour crop. And if I need to treat her, what’s the best way? I’m seriously wondering if this has been the issue all along or is secondary due to the yogurt. Any help is so appreciated. You guys are a blessing,

Does she sleep in the dark?
The best way to check a crop is first thing in the morning before a chicken eats/drinks. It should be empty. If you are checking it during daylight hours or if they are in a brooder with a light on 24/7 it can be hard to gauge function.

Is she pooping?

You can massage the crop to see if that will help get things moving. I would not add anything to the food or give yogurt until the 5-7days of Corid is finished.

If the crop is still full in the morning, then follow the treatments outlined in this article

She’s not pooping. It’s definitely sour crop. I’m about to start a new thread because I’m desperate at this point.

Is the crop empty?
Has she pooped at all?
Is the butt pasted over with poop?

If you have any photos of the chick and your set-up those may be helpful.

What are you feeding her? Is she drinking?

She’s pooped some, but I’ve kept her butt clean. She’s not eating, but she is drinking. Her crop is mushy. After I started massaging her crop, she started to vomit. I tilted her forward. I’ve since pulled her water and food. I think I may be too late. :( She’s lost weight. Her vent is clear. There is dried poop, but I just got home. I just don’t think she’s going to make it. I’m super confused because I thought they couldn’t poop if they had sour crop. Not sure if I’m correct with that.

Sorry. Her crop is full. It’s mushy.

A bird can still poop with a sour crop, a sour crop is usually a slow moving crop or a crop that is not emptying completely. The food in the crop then sours.

Massage in a downward motion. If you push the crop contents up, she may aspirate liquid/feed into her lungs.

Withhold feed, but make water available. I think I saw where you are treating her for Coccidiosis? The Corid water needs to be available during waking hours.

Her butt looks clogged to me or she has poop buildup near the vent, soak her bottom in some warm water to get that loosened up and clean it off. Dry her well, use a hair dryer if you need to so she doesn't get chilled.

You can’t tell in the photo, but her vent is clear. I will get it off.
