I have been researching the treatments for Sour Crop on BYC for the last week. I have a ten-week old Barnevelder named Marge with the condition and she wasn't getting any better with the 'throwing up' treatment and refused to eat yogurt after I emptied her crop. She was getting skinnier and I was getting worried.
One of the suggested treatments I found on BKC was an anti-fungal used for vaginal yeast infections. The recommended treatment was twice daily for five days. I decided to use the handy dandy applicators in the box.
With the recommended dose in one of the seven-day applicators, I opened Marge the chicken's beak to see if I could get a little in her mouth - and she LOVED it. Gobbled it right up. Like it was candy.
I just went outside to give her today's second dose and called her name. She came running over to take the dose.
Weird chicken.
But she is looking SO much better.

Her crop is still pendulous. I think I am going to DIY a chicken bra to pull up that lax muscle so she can recover more quickly. :)
And she just gobbled down more meds.

I started worming the entire flock as a precaution, but I haven't taken a poop sample to the vet yet. I will do so. Thank you so much for the comments. This particular bird is possibly a rooster and I want one rooster for my flock. More later!

My vet doesn’t treat chickens. The one mobile farm vet here hasn’t returned my calls. On an up note, she isn’t getting worse, is eating a lot of yogurt, and has a lot more energy.
