sour crop problem

I've determined that one of my chickens has sour crop, but I can't figure out who. I can smell that sour milk smell, but none of them are acting sick. I narrowed it down to 2 of the silver laced wyandottes, but neither of them smell like anything but a normal smelly chicken. Felt all their crops, too, and didn't notice anything unusual. So then I smelled the other 8 (and got a nice scratch on the face for my trouble!), and had the same issue. I know the problem was caused by lack of grit because there has been about a foot of snow on the ground for the past week or so, so they haven't been able to dig up their usual rocks & stuff. So my question is, should I go ahead & put out the plain yogurt & apple cider vinegar for all of them? I know you're supposed to massage the crop & restrict food, but I don't know which one it is to give that treatment to. These chickens are not pets, but I don't want any of them to be suffering.

If you can't find a bird in trouble, maybe the smell is coming from the coop- end of winter, possibly thawing and material that is offensive. I'd clean down the coop before assuming.

Nevertheless, if you search under Miss Prissy and sour crop, you will get some great information.

No yogurt, please, it makes sour crop worse...

If you haven't, make sure there is a constant supply of grit, All grades mixed together.

I found her, but her crop doesn't feel too bad. Soft, but not squishy. Turned her upside down & massaged it & nothing. Like I said, she's acting fine, and her droppings look normal. I've got her inside and am keeping an eye on her. Is it possible she is smelly for another reason?

I went out & got some grit last night, and the chickens all had a go at it.

I wouldn't give her anymore food and research "sour crop" in the search area for all postings on sour crop. Personally I would try some grit to grind up what's in there and get it moving or try to get it out.

Well, now I'm thinking that LynneP is right, and it's just end of winter coop funkiness.

It smells even when the chickens are all out of the coop. Next clear day I will get out & scrape it out. I opened up all the vents today to air it out & put another layer of pines shavings in. That has definitely helped.
