Sour crop

I initially separated my hen from the rest of the girls, she no longer accepted her mushed food and didn't seem to drink much, that's when I decided to put her back out, she was happier. Now when I vomit her, I do it outside the coop and put her back in with the girls. They wont reject her, the pecking order might change due to bombie not feeling well. Put some Vaseline on were she has been injured. Hope you see some improvements in the morning.

Do watch the pecking I guess in the coop. Sucha balance as you already have your hands full. And you'd think being brooder mates and knowing each other they'd give up the cause a little bit picking on her...after a bit. But I suppose they need to re-establish who's the boss. Chickens!

Here's hoping that the snow pushes through fast then and the Vet stays open Friday. Hang Tough!

You would find yourself in a complete night mare where I live then.

thanks for telling me about the vaseline, i know people say neosporin but we dont have that here and i cant figure out what our equivilant is! i will keep a close eye on the pecking for sure,it horrifies me that one of my babies may have done that to her. chickens! indeed.
no i dont think id do well with your weather at all! lol i cringe at your posts on temps! im not sure i wouldnt be sat in doors in front of the rad all winter and never go out! tee hee i do loves me heating! lol

not heard of fucidin but will look at chemist thank you.
todays report: comb has tiny scab looks good no more pecking or injury.
crop emptied some over night but is emptying less and less. cant vomit her,not without pushing past my comfort zone which i wont due to the risky nature of it.
can feel mass in crop which feels to be clumping into a ball shape! i havnt tried tube suctioning today as i dont believe that mass has any hope of coming up a tube and its not worth the stress for her. shes eating drinking and pooping but looks fairly uncomfotable :( i think my only hope of saving her is crop surgery:( shes booked at vets at 10:10 tomorrow morning. i am expecting she will stay in for surgery but vet will make the final decision. i dont feel good about putting her through sugery but feel it may be my only option. she can not survive with a blocked crop.it will only get worse and i worry about her not getting enough nutrition past the mass. im feeding watered down mashed pellets with added vitimin mineral and protein supplement designed for chickens during molts and times of stress (shes both) shes having a treatment free day out in the run with her girls :) i will report tomorrow on how the surgery goes if it does go ahead. very anxious and pray she comes through it xx

Prayers for Bombie. She needs the surgery. Maybe this incision will be fairly small on her too. Probably won't hardly phase her and she's going to feel so much better for it. I'm glad she's going in tomorrow. Glad the snow passed you by so the Vet stays "open" tomorrow!

for Bombie Please. xx

I just googled antibiotic ointment in the UK. And that name fucidin came up. It might not be the best or most popular even ...well obviously...LOL. Neosporin I think just happens to be most popular in the U.s. Even though 1 in 10 people are allergic to neomycin. So not really a fan of that one. I prefer bacitracin myself. Chickens are different though. so what ever coverage you get with antibiotic will probably suffice.

Good luck Shell, she will be fine. :).

See if they will let you get a picture of the stuff from her crop and post it on here.

thanks you guys :) i did think of getting pics im very interested in whats in there. hopfully it will give me some direction for her recovery. may end up with a pretty sterile environment! :( hoping they dont pull any wood chip out as it would be nice to have some on the coop floor. but probly gonna avoid any loose bedding at all until shes back on normal food cos then they have 24/7 access to food and hopefully wont be tempted to eat bedding. im gonna change to mash rather than pellets. im lookingforward to a day when she can have the odd treat without it causing a problem. i miss taking out their chopped grapes or little vege salad :(. will all be a slow process though.
for now ill be exstatic just to get her back from vets alive following a successful removal of that mass. shes looking pretty pitiful right now. big crop sagging down and feels heavy. shes less active in the afternoons because of the weight of food in there. i pray after tomorrow we'll be able to put all this behind us .x
