heading off to vets soon. just wanted to thank you all very much for your prayers and well wishes. and to ipana thanks for checking my thread to keep an eye on things and for your lovely pm i got this morning which has given me hope xx bombie is worse this morning than shes been in a long time crop is enlarged and fluidy seems not to have emptied any overnight. i hope so much tbe crops not sour again cos i know they wont operate if it is. i thought about vomiting her before i go to see for myself but what difference would it make. just have to hope. ive never been so nervous! not even when i went into labour!lol i hope my next post is a good one xxx

well bombies been left at the vets. dosnt seem she has the sour crop thank goodness! my vet is so lovely. his going to try to empty her first by putting her out then putting a breathing tube in to stop her aspirating then try to empty the crop manually he thinks he has a 98% chance this way but if he cant empty it completely he will make an incision and flush everything out. he wanted the birdy bra for after but its still not arrived argh! ive got a lot of work to get done in the run today as she will be separtated. ive given the other hens treats for the first time in ages i think they think all their xmas's have come at once!!lol just have to hope for a good result now. xx

Sounds like you have a good sensible vet, Shell. Taking things a step at a time. All the time and energy you have invested in this bird, it's no wonder you are nervous for her.

Bombie will have a good result.

Maybe they'll be fashioning her a bra at the vet to help hold things in place after her procedure. I wish the mail wasn't so slow for you. Goodness.

picked bombie up about an hour ago. procedure went well. shes still very shaky and sleepy and i havnt had a good feel of her yet just letting her rest in a crate in doors for now.
vet said there was tons of stuff in there he didnt cut the crop managed to empty it manually he also used an endescope to fish out some tuff areas and to have a look inside the crop(whixh he kindly didnt charge me for) (apparently its extremely expensive,his words!) he said the crop is healthy no fungus or ulcerations which is great. but he feels there may be more blockage further into the stomach where the tools cant reach. her thinks she may dislodge that now and bring it back up into the crop. he will see her again next week to feel and decide if a second procedure is neccarsary. he said she dealt so well with the anesthetic and procedure that a second time shouldnt cause her any problems.
all in all an exhausting day but a successful one im very relieved to have her home x.
btw pwand he pulled loads of hay outa there! mine havnt had hay for over two months!! hay it seems is a risky bed for these crop troubled birds! i took a photo but not great one. so much fluid came out so its hard to see

lots of feathers.hay.bits i dont even recognise!! looks like grit(not chicken grit but more from run floor) and bits of what looks like plant fibres.?? idk!!
just hoping to see some good recovery by tomorrow. she has to have mashy food for another week.

here she is in recovery. and yes that is a birdy bra!!!! delivered litrally as i left the house to pick her up!!!

Wow Shell, I'm amazed tht she had the hay in there after two months. That's frightening. Glad she's home. She looks like my girl and she is fashioning her new pink bra. . Oh how cute. . Lets hope for a full recovery after this.
