Sourcing Chickens?

Hello! I’m really new to this, but want to learn more about where to source my birds. I got a dozen from a friend a few years ago, but she’s not selling.

I’m wondering about other good breeds for my area (just north of Ohio River valley), and if there are any reputable breeders out there. We’re mostly looking for layers. Our kids are excited by “exotic” looking birds, though. I try to stay away from the big stores like Tractor Supply and Rural King, or at least go with people/places that try to have sustainable and healthy practices.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure why you are against Tractor Supply, but neither here nor there. It's ok. Try looking on Craig's list. Now might be a hard time to find stuff. Google it. I was looking a few weeks ago and have seen that many places are sold out due to high demand right now. I got "lucky" that my husbands work/feed store ordered some and we got ours there. Good luck.
