We keep oyster shell out free choice for all our chickens, but I remember my grandmother would save all the egg shells including those from broody hatched chicks, and put them in an old pan on the wood heater and when they were bone dry she'd crush them and feed them back to the chickens free choice sorta like we do oyster shell.
