I just recently started a small flock b/c I think it is important that my kids understand food doesn't just appear and we dont have room for cattle...yet 
So far it has been a good experience and with the help of a raccoon or two we have also explored life, death and loss. Now everything has settled down and we are having fun collecting eggs and watching them out and about, With any luck I will get atleast one broody hen to start spring off and yet another learning experience. I have been lurking for awhile and am glad that I can join in the conversations now.
