Space between perch and nest

What is the ideal space between the perch in front of the nest and the nest its self? Our nests are 8 inches off the ground and 24 inches. I put a perch in front of nest so they could hop up there. How far should the nest be from the perch?

If your highest nestbox is only 24" off the floor, you don't NEED landing perches in front of them, and indeed would most likely be a lot better off without 'em (sometimes chickens like to sit there and poo into the boxes, -> pooey eggs)

Yeah, you don't need the perch in front.

I used one because I had the extra piece of unused lumber, so I put it in front of the nest boxes.

To me it seems like the perch is in the way, but we'll see how well it works once the chickens start actually using the nest boxes.

i have my nesting boxes about 8 to 10 " off the coop floor i am going to build some perches but not infront of the nestting box
