Space for 25 BBQ Specials from McMurray plus 9 hens

No, they are all coming as chicks. I wanted to do a chicken tractor for my 8 hens, but it would have to be huge. I am really disappointed about that. I had downloaded a book by Martin Ashway called "Incredible Chickens" and his spacing is smaller than the general consesus here. I should have just read this forum first.

First off trust the book, second you can do a tractor for 8 hens especially if you can let them loose during part of the day and move it alot. For the tractor there are ways that you can build the tractor to optimize space such as arcs, one of the prominent pastured poultry farms uses a 10x10 tractor for 25 hens. For your 8 hens you could make a 5x5 coop and they would be fine especially if you move it you can see on here they have a 4x6 tractor that can hold 10-12 hens.

You will need to wait until they have their adult feathers and then you clip them after they molt. They should have their adult feathers at 16 week.
