The problem is that I can't easily get power to the coop. It rarely goes below 60 overnight here until November--do you think I can just make a cave for them and not do the heating pad thing? I'd really rather have them start out in the coop rather than the garage.

I don't know that I'd chance it without the heating pad, trudyg. We ran a heavy duty extension cord from the garage to the run, but the distance isn't that great. I do have power in the coop, but the only way for an extension cord to work in the run would be to pull it through the pop door into the coop and then over to the outlet, which the chickens would never have left alone. I wish this could work for you - there is just nothing like having them outside from the start.

My brooder is 3'x5' and 2' deep. Getting 16 little ones hope I get the coop finished soon
