just put them in one of those plastic storage containers you can get a pretty long one at the family dollar or dollar general for about $12.00. clip on light , will clip to the side. they are so easy to clean, and chicks love them
Bigger the box the better when they approach 2-3 wks. I kept my ten dual purpose chicks in a 169 gal stock tank. I put two metal folding chairs in the up right position up against the wall then the stock tank up against them to hold the chairs up right, then clamped the two heat lamps to the backs of the chairs with the cord wrapped around the back of the chair so the light couldn't fall in the stock tank if the clamp gave way.
I had two heat lamps in case one burned out which it did one night.
This is a picture from the night I moved the girls out in the coop at age 6 wks. Temps here are still 30s-40s at night and the girls are still choosing to sleep in the brooder at night rather than the roost that I move one of the heat lamps to.
Very helpful on space and clamps; thank you all very much. Clearly going to have to find something bigger to house them in beyond week two or so; maybe we'll try a refrigerator box. I think I ordered too many chicks, but there are so many pretty ones! I'm in New York and will include that info as soon as I figure out how!
