We lost our five lovely BR Ladies to raccoons. We are going to try again after some fortification to the coop and chicken yard. Currently we a debating between just 5 or 6 chicks again or starting with 15 chicks and 15 keets. But if we go with the larger quantity of birds I need to figure out a brooder.

Hubby suggests we just put them all in the chicken coop together. I have a couple concerns

1. Are chicks and keets okay together?
2. Temp in the chicken coop - we may be able to run a long extension cord to it for a light. Outside temps here are ranging from 60s at night to 80s & 90s during the day. Can we just brood them in the coop with out a light? There are windows for day time ventilation.

Thank you

I have always raised my keets with my chicks with no problems.Right now
I have about 75 keets that are in the brooder with about 60 chicks.
I would say myself with the temps at night in the 60's you will
really need a light on them. We are having lows in the 70's and I still have mine under a light.
