Oh wow!! We have a military thing near us so we actually see tanks and helicopters pretty often. But why would they do that?

Well, blame the dog. Since I assume this actually did happen, just like the birb poop on keyboard, then your logical answer is to release the skunk and blame the dog for getting a skunk mad.
