So its a fantasy series and basically humans are gone and the owls rule the world, there are 2 main owl groups the pure ones (evil) and the gaurdians (good) so coryn was first named nyroc cause his mom is nyra leader of the pure ones, but he sees in the fire he has a purpose, so he changes his name to coryn and becomes king of the gaurdians of gahoole... pretty sure his mom or one of her minions kills him, I know he dies but I forget who did the deed then his uncle soren becomes ruler
